Project Rigor: How to Get to High-Quality Work

Iterative design is when you take your initial idea, get feedback, and improve upon that idea and your prototype in a cycle that can happen an infinite number of times (until you hit your deadline, of course!). It can be difficult for students to push through initial ideas, commit to improving their models, or engage in high-quality documentation and presentation of their ideas. To address these roadblocks, student buy-in is key.

To increase student buy-in, it is important for their teachers to show engagement with the project  from the start. Teachers can bring their own voices to the studio, sharing ideas and opinions and actively and enthusiastically engaging with the student work through frequent check-ins and thoughtful conversations about the projects throughout the studio.
